Unleash the Adventure: The Ultimate Buggy Route

Buckle up for a journey through the rugged soul of Western Crete. This route takes you from the sparkling coast of Kolimbari through ancient olive groves, hidden mountain villages, and down to the untouched turquoise waters of the Rodopos Peninsula.

Phase 1: The Wild Rodopos Frontier

Our journey begins in the seaside town of Kolimbari and we head straight into the wild. We pass through Rodopos village, the last outpost of civilization before the terrain turns beautifully raw.

Menies Beach (Diktynna): Accessible best by buggy, this secluded paradise sits at the site of an ancient temple. The crystal-clear waters and white pebbles offer a serene escape far from the crowds. It is the ultimate reward for the off-road trek.

Phase 2: Panoramic Ridges & Hidden Gems

Leaving the coast, we climb the ridges of the peninsula for breathtaking views of the Gulf of Chania.

As we come back to Rodopos village from Menies beach (Diktynna) we head back to Rodopos village and continue through some more traditional villages and wonderful viewpoints.

Astratigos & Afrata: Two picturesque villages. The descent through the gorge near Afrata offers dramatic rock formations and stunning Aegean vistas.

Orthodox Academy of Crete: A world-renowned center for dialogue and culture, nestled right on the water’s edge.

Gonia Monastery: A few meters after the Orthodox Academy of Crete we pass this 17th-century fortress-like monastery. Admire its Venetian architecture and the priceless collection of icons before we make the short cruise back into the heart of Kolimbari.
